I do not have a WinXP Media Center install CD-just the HP restore discs. As i have heard that AMD processor is having some problem with sp3 installation and also i read in sp3 system requirements that it wont update in 64 bit windows xp. Per instructions in another answered question, I have tried renaming the intelppm.sys folder to intelppm.old in Knoppix and reinstalling SP3. The only solution is to unstall SP3 in Safe Mode. The install dialog reports the SP3 install wizard completed successfully, but Windows fails to launch when the unit reboots. The install dialog reports the SP3 install wizard completed successfully, but Windows fails to launch when the unit reboots. I have repeatedly attempted to install WinXP SP3 with no success. There are no devices that failed to install properly-no yellow exclamation marks or red "X's" showing in Device Manager, and no hardware installs invoked upon Windows launch. The restore was error-free and included SP2. > But this disk is not OK and gets stuck in repairing my curremt ('worn out') > SP3 PC installation as described. > I have already used the file you mentioned to make a slipstream with my > original SP2 disk resulting in a fully installable SP3 WinXP SP3 boot disk. The only devices connected to the tower at the time of the factory restore were a USB keyboard, USB pointing device, flat screen monitor and speakers. My goal was not to get an add on SP3 disk for upgrading to SP3. I recently performed a factory restore using third-party restore discs (HP no longer supplies them) following installation of a new hard drive. I have an HP Pavilion a1477c desktop running Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 SP2.
